**Mō mātou | About us**:
He Pou a Rangi | The Climate Change Commission (the Commission) is an Independent Crown Entity established under the Climate Change Response Act 2002.
We provide independent, expert advice to the Government of Aotearoa on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals. The Commission plays a key role in developing and implementing clear and stable climate change policies in Aotearoa.
**Ngā Tūnga | The Role**:
We have a Principal Analyst role available in our Land and Waste team leading our forestry portfolio. The Land and Waste team provides advice on how the food, fibre and waste sectors contribute towards Aotearoa's transition to a thriving climate resilient future. We advise government on emissions budgets and targets. We produce independent evidence-led advice on policies to reduce emissions, and on adapting to a changing climate. The team are also responsible for monitoring the progress of the Governments emissions reduction and adaptation plans in those sectors.
Forestry is key part of the food and fibre sector and a key tool in mitigating climate change. Understanding the sector is critical in advising on how it contributes towards Aotearoa's transition to a thriving climate resilient future.
**We have an exciting role for someone**:
- with a strong background in the economics of forestry in New Zealand.
- who understands the business of forestry, including cost and revenue drivers and/ or forest carbon markets.
The role will be responsible for developing and leading the commission's work around forestry. This includes questions of land-use change, the bioeconomy, carbon prices and economic modelling. The role will involve taking intellectual leadership of the direction of the Commission's forestry advice, analysing trends and changes in the sector, and engaging with stakeholders as the Commission's advice is developed.
You will lead or contribute to technical and policy analysis related to aspects of the Commission's work, working closely with others in the team and collaborating across the business. Your work will involve navigating complex issues, building and maintaining expertise, developing new frameworks and approaches. Your work will involve engagement with a wide set of stakeholders; engagement is at the heart of what we do. Your work will engage iwi/Māori in a manner that upholds Tikanga, grow your understanding of te ao maori, and recognise the Crown - Māori partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi.

**Mō ēnei tūranga mahi | The role involves**:
- Framing and communicating advice in a way that recognises the needs and concerns of the audience.
- Making sound, timely decisions that keep the organisation and work moving forward.
- Leading and contributing to multiple pieces of work concurrently.
- Supporting other Commission staff and contributing to the expert analysis provided to the Board, taking on feedback and making enhancements to enable effective decision making.
- Engaging with iwi/Māori in a manner that upholds Tikanga and recognises the Crown - Māori partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi.
**Ō pūmanawa | About you**:
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge and experience of a range of research, evidence and analytical methods, including emerging and innovative approaches and frameworks
- Sound judgement and awareness of the context within which advice is formulated and communicated
- Strong logic and reasoning skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
- Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te ao Māori and experience engaging with Iwi/Māori
- An understanding of government processes, systems and tools.
- Knowledge of the business of forestry in New Zealand
