KiwiRail’s Communications team provides external relations and communications leadership, advice and services to the CEO and the wider organisation. The team is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of external relations and communications activity, and provides a range of services and support to the organisation including, but not limited to:

- Media Liaison
- Crisis Communications
- Stakeholder engagement
- Official Information Act compliance

**What you’ll do**
- be an integral part of KiwiRail’s Auckland Metro Programme team to plan and execute communications and engagement activities across major projects.
- develop and implement communications strategies and programmes designed to enhance and preserve the brands of KiwiRail.
- deliver key communications functions and services, including media relations and digital communications.
- be proactive in establishing and maintaining relationships with key individuals or groups both internal and external to the organisation.
- Work closely with our partners to deliver collaborative communications activities and plans
- demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, exercise a high standard of oral and written communication skills and good judgement.
- support the rest of the Communications team as required.

**What you’ll need**
- A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, or a related discipline
- 5+ years’ experience in communications, media management and public relations - with prior experience working in a senior level role.
- Strong writer and communicator
- Experience in the development of communications plans and strategies
- Understanding the significance of communicating to difference audiences
- Ability to think beyond immediate issues, to consider the long term and broader implications.
- Anticipates issues, opportunities and change to the environment relevant to the communications are and know how to respond appropriately.
