Our incumbent is taking 12-months leave, so we are seeking a suitably experienced and motivated individual for the position of 'Team Leader - Water Quality' in the Environmental Monitoring Section, based in Hamilton, for 12-months from the start of January.

This is a great opportunity if you have existing management experience or if you have a desire to step up and give it a go.

**About the role**:
A key focus over the next 12-months will be delivering wetland monitoring to meet our obligations under the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management. This role is also an important link with our Iwi partners through training and sharing knowledge of our monitoring operations. You will work closely with the other teams in the monitoring section covering hydrology, ecology and data management as well as WRC’s scientists. As a Section we lead the gathering and management of environmental information for Council that is used by scientists, engineers and policy analysts for decision making.

**Key Tasks**:

- Deliver the ecology monitoring work programme for freshwater (rivers, lakes and wetlands) and estuarine environments.
- Manage a team of 8 staff and 5 fixed term students.
- Establish strong internal and external relationships.

**You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record in**:

- Team leadership.
- Undertaking and developing monitoring plans.
- Building and maintaining partnerships and relationships across a wide range of individuals, stakeholders and organisations.
- Leading, developing and facilitating projects, initiatives and responses at operational and strategic levels.
