**About the Role**
As the Principal Risk and Assurance Advisor, you will play a key role in developing and implementing KiwiRail's enterprise risk management and assurance frameworks. You’ll provide expert advice on risk and assurance matters to leadership, help embed a strong risk culture across the organisation, and drive complex risk assessments and assurance activities. Reporting to senior management and governance bodies, your work will be critical in supporting KiwiRail to achieve its strategic objectives while effectively managing risks.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead the development and implementation of KiwiRail’s risk management and assurance frameworks.
- Provide expert guidance on complex risk and assurance matters to senior leaders.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and assurance activities, ensuring compliance with governance standards.
- Develop and deliver strategies to embed a strong risk management culture across the organisation.
- Report key risk and assurance insights to senior management and governance bodies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure risk and assurance practices are integrated into projects and operations.
- Mentor and support risk and assurance professionals within KiwiRail to enhance organisational capability.
- Balancing standardised risk management approaches with the flexibility needed for various business units and projects.
- Gaining buy-in from senior leaders and fostering a risk-aware culture across the organisation.
- Managing multiple, concurrent risk and assurance initiatives in a fast-paced and complex environment.
**What We’re Looking For**:
- 5+ years of experience leading complex risk management and assurance initiatives.
- In-depth knowledge of risk management methods, frameworks, and best practices.
- Proven experience developing and implementing organisation-wide risk strategies.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leaders.
- Familiarity with New Zealand’s transport sector is a plus.
- A strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and customer focus.
- Strong problem-solving ability and data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and able to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Committed to diversity and inclusion in driving change across the organisation.
- Resilient and able to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment.
**Qualifications**:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Advanced certification in risk management or assurance
