Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
This is an exciting time to join our growing Regulatory Support and Performance team at MPI. The volume and range of food imported into New Zealand continues to increase each year, with products coming from more diverse markets.
New Zealand Food Safety introduced a Food Act Levy earlier in the year to fund new services required to support a robust food safety system including measures for monitoring high risk foods and take steps necessary to protecting public health.
What we're striving to achieve is a dedicated level of service to support our Importers, which includes focusing on areas such as:

- Educating Importers and providing service design improvements to make technical and regulatory information easier to understand through a variety of channels, tools and information services to make access more self accessible.
- Engagement with our stakeholders through facilitating events or webinars which can identity pain points and how we can support them.
- Advisory services to provide tailored, timely advice and being that gateway in to interpreting regulations and how to navigate the system. To provide information on requirements, constraints, and available options to our customers.

All the while collaborating with other teams in New Zealand Food Safety to identify trends, issues, patterns and pain points for sectors and businesses and receive advice from the technical experts to support any response to identified patterns or issues that importers.
Mōu - About You
We are looking someone ideally working in the primary sector, or who knows their way around imports and regulatory requirements.
**The Advisor position will need someone who is**:

- Customer focused with excellent communication and active listening skills - able to understand technical issues and translate this into simple messaging.
- Experience creating education material for stakeholders and online tools which help support our customer experience.
- Ability to front and resolve complex issues.

The Senior position will be responsible for standing up the functions of this team, so you will need to be confident and have the ability to take initiative to lead the work and look for opportunities to shape this role and its outputs.
**As a Senior you will need**:

- To be comfortable and confident leading and facilitating workshops or events
- Food Safety knowledge of logistics they have to navigate
- Ability to create and maintain effective networks between customers, government agencies and industry managing sometimes difficult relationships.
- Experience in service design and leading projects or improvements for the business, you do not need any project management qualifications or experience, just the ability to manage tasks and initiatives from start to finish in an organised manner.
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills and systems thinking ability, and able to deal comfortably with ambiguity and complexity.

This team will be imbedded in to the Exporter Regulatory Advice Service (ERAS) team which supports New Zealand exporters by making it easier to understand MPI's requirements to export. The team works together collaboratively and with other MPI teams which will eventually become a more holistic Advisory Services team.
