**About the Team**:
The Technology Group is responsible for the effective delivery, management, and services of all technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment. These include Oceanic and Domestic Air Traffic Management, Security, National MPLS Network, National Operations / Maintenance and Specialist Support, Information Technology and Service Management, CNS and Meteorological Services, Project Delivery, Flight Inspection and National Engineering.
The National Operations and Maintenance team provides the expertise and support in engineering design development and management for projects, installation, maintenance, and fault repair for Airways ground-based aviation infrastructure (control centres; control towers; communications, navigation, surveillance (CNS) and meteorological systems).
Operations and Maintenance includes teams located throughout New Zealand and a 24/7 National Operations Centre that monitors the infrastructure. Collectively they ensure the performance, reliability and availability of Airways infrastructure so they are available when required and are operating to defined specifications that meet agreed customer service availability.
**About the Role**:
Due to internal progression, we have an opening for someone to step into the Central Workshop Lead Technician role at our Christchurch based campus.
As the Central Workshop Lead Technician, you’re responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Airways Central workshop, ensuring the smooth functioning of maintenance, repair, and testing of electronic systems and equipment critical to Airways NZ.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the workflow, overseeing staff, and ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Leading the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems and components for communications, navigation, surveillance and ATM (air traffic management) systems, ensuring their reliability and operational performance.
- Performing regular inspections, and testing of equipment to ensure that all systems operate according to required specifications.
- Ensuring that all electronic systems undergo detailed testing to meet operational specifications and tolerances.
- Playing an active role in the research and development of new equipment and bespoke solutions for operational challenges, contributing ideas for innovation.
- Working closely with the Calibration and Repair Team Leader, ensuring the workshop operates effectively to maintain the safety of critical aviation systems.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to workshop staff and trainees, helping to resolve complex issues and ensure skills development within the team.
- Taking ownership for managing the workshop inventory, including spare parts, tools, and testing equipment.

**About You**:
Due to the nature of the role, you’ll hold proven experience diagnosing and repairing electronic equipment faults to the component level on circuit boards, including troubleshooting, testing, and replacing individual electronic components.
Additionally, you will have:
- Bachelor of Engineering - Washington or Sydney Accord in Electronic, Telecommunication and Electrical, or equivalent experience.
- Electrical workers registration (EST).
- Experience in complex engineering problem solving and fault rectification with quality outcomes on critical systems.
- Strong supervisory skills, with experience in overseeing daily workshop operations and providing technical support and guidance to staff.
- Excellent technical troubleshooting and repair skills in electronics including use test equipment, a strong knowledge of RF, electronic and digital theory.
- Strong understanding of workshop workflow management, resource allocation, and inventory control.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Efficient user of Office365, document management systems and the ability to provide accurate timely reporting.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful outcomes.
