He angitūtanga | About the role
How would you like to be part of a team looking after special places in the Kapiti Wellington District, protecting at-risk species across coastal dune lands, to forest parks, ensuring local gems continue to thrive? Enjoy a diverse role where no two days are the same.
As a Ranger Project Lead Community you will be responsible for connecting people and looking after our relationships with communities at place. You will join the Operations team to work alongside our Treaty partners and communities to achieve great outcomes for conservation.

**In the role, you will**:

- enjoy building and maintaining strong and enduring relationships
- support whānau, hapū and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao
- operate within a statutory framework, following process and procedure and build understanding of the different acts
- promote the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives
- identify and execute opportunities to achieve conservation outcomes working with others.

Aspects of this role follows a statutory framework, bringing critical thinking and analytical skills to find solutions. This role will cover a diverse range of mahi.
We are a small district team and there are always opportunities to assist each other across the different functional teams, be that supporting the bio team with snail monitoring or the heritage team with track maintenance, the opportunities and endless.

We need an individual who is a proven team player, well-organised and great at relationships, communication and problem solving. You will be versatile and resilient, able to tackle a variety of work.

**We are keen to hear from you if you have**:

- excellent communication skills
- experience creating effective and enduring relationships
- excellent IT skills, comfortable using database systems and navigating legislative processes
- proven problem-solving, critical-thinking and analysis skills, ability to provide mutually beneficial outcomes
- full New Zealand driver licence.

**Desirable**:

- Comfortable working with whānau, hapū and iwi and a good understanding of te ao Māori me ngā tikanga.
- Experience planning and executing medium complex projects.
- Experience working within a statutory framework and legislation.
- Interest in conservation.

The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement, iwi partners and visitor centre teams.
The Kapiti Wellington team are close-knit, look out for one another, and are passionate about the mahi that they do. They operate in an environment with a highly engaged and knowledgeable iwi and community who care about their environment and deliver outstanding mahi on the ground.
