**We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, to join and become part of our One Winning Team**

- Based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Pōneke (Wellington) or Ōtautahi (Christchurch)

**What you’ll do**

Reporting to the Engineering Civil Sector Manager, you’ll be responsible for responsible for managing engineering aspects of design and significant maintenance work for railway infrastructure geotechnical related assets and geotechnical hazards along the rail corridor.

**Key Responsibilities include**:

- Be a technical leader for the Geotechnical discipline, driving best practice Engineering and engaging at a strategic level with senior leadership, Technical Director and PHs, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership for Design Standards and Major Geotechnical Works. Projects e.g. earthworks design, slope stabilisation, foundations of bridges, settlement and liquefaction.
- Drive innovation and efficiency in design solutions.
- Lead and manage investigations and inspections for slopes, embankments, and risk mitigation structures and the development of cost-effective solutions for maintenance or renewal.
- Training and supervision of junior engineers, providing technical guidance and mentoring.

**What you’ll need**

You’ll have a relevant Tertiary and preferably post-graduate qualification in Civil Engineering. You’ll be a Chartered Engineer with Professional registration with a relevant organisation along with 10-15 years’ experience in geotechnical / engineering geology fields.

**In addition you will have**:

- Experience in earthworks design, slope stabilisation, foundations of bridges, settlement, liquefaction, and risk mitigation.
- Experience with engineering analysis, asset databases, and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to influence others.
- Railway infrastructure experience is desirable.
- Project management and contract management experience is beneficial.
- Experience taking a leading role with geotechnical design AND asset management is desirable.
- Experience in geotechnical engineering assessments is advantageous.
