The diverse nature of MPI keeps the work varied and interesting. The Cost Recovery Directorate works across all MPI branches and legislation to ensure the cost recovery regulations remain accurate and fit for purpose. This includes ensuring cost recovery is enabled in new legislation, the business units understand our charging practices, and opportunities are identified to amend regulations to make them simpler for Ministers, MPI and fee payers.
As a Principal Analyst you will provide thought leadership to the team and support the manager with delivery of the work programme. You will lead key cost recovery policy work streams, including policy analysis to establish new charging arrangements, periodic fundamental reviews, and regular reviews to ensure charging regulations are kept up to date. At least some regulations are amended annually - you will use your experience to ensure this process runs smoothly.

**In this role, you would have the opportunity to**:

- Help the team drive the Cost Recovery directorate's work programme, contributing to its core policy work streams and annual review processes
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships across a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Build and deliver priority cost recovery workstreams for MPI
- Develop cost-effective policy options for Government action related to the primary sector
- Provide coaching, mentoring support, and advice to analysts
