The Market Regulation Branch of the Commerce Commission is responsible for regulating the telecommunications, fuel, dairy and retail payment systems. It will also soon be the home of our grocery regulatory responsibilities. It is a fantastic time to join Te Komihana Tauhokohoko.

Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency. We are establishing a new function to support the work of the Grocery Commissioner. The grocery sector is a $22 billion a year industry - we are conscious of the significance of this work and the importance of supermarkets in the lives of all New Zealanders.
We are keen to find the right mix of people with the capability and passion for this mahi so we can continue to make a positive impact on competition in the sector.
Mō te Teranga | About the role
Initially, you will be an integral part of helping to set up our grocery regulatory function. You will be a part of a multi-disciplinary establishment team that will ensure the Commission is well prepared for the start of its regulatory responsibilities under the Grocery Industry Competition Bill. The focus will then move to implementing the legislation. The breadth of work across this team will include opportunities to work on regulatory strategy and policy design, market performance monitoring, investigations, compliance and enforcement and stakeholder engagement.

You are excited about moving between developing strategy as well as rolling your sleeves up to get the work done. You enjoy building trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and the opportunity to influence at a senior level. You understand what it takes to implement legislation, including establishing regulatory processes.
You work collaboratively, have a clear communication style, and take pride in providing quality mentorship. Ideally you will bring a track record of delivering results and the ability to navigate a legal, economic and commercial environment.
We are looking for people with a mix of skills and experience, including:

- Understanding what it takes to implement legislation
- Conceptual thinking and problem solving
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Demonstrated experience working in projects
