To do this effectively we must position ourselves to elevate our monitoring and mentoring responsibilities and emphasise our role in holding other agencies to account for delivery of public services to, for and with Māori.
We are looking for a Policy Analysts to join our Whānau Ora Policy Team, **based in National office, Wellington.**
Based in Pōneke Wellington, our Policy Puni leads across the public sector to understand and prioritise issues, needs and opportunities impacting on Māori development and wellbeing.
**Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity**
The Whānau Ora Policy Team focuses on developing policy and policy advice on social issues relating to whānau and hapū, and supporting enablers of whānau resilience, wellbeing and mana motuhake through the promotion of whānau-centred policy approaches and indigenous whānau ora practice, across government and in the community.
Te Puni Kōkiri believes that there is opportunity to leverage the proven success of the Whānau Ora model to deliver further success for New Zealanders with distinct needs. A key kaupapa for the team is to deliver against Te Puni Kōkiri's strategic intention to see the public sector more widely adopt the Whānau Ora commissioning model.
The team works with a wide range of agencies across a range of kaupapa, including Whānau Ora, health, education and other areas of social policy, and the Crown response to the Abuse in Care Inquiry.
As a Policy Analyst you will.
- Provide credible, evidence-based advice anchored in the context of iwi, hapū, whānau and Māori as it applies to the aims of the Whānau Ora Policy team
- Conduct thorough and detailed analysis of complex policy issues to understand their implications and identify potential solutions
- Work collaboratively with peers at Te Puni Kōkiri and with social agencies.
- Contribute to robust team discussion and promote a culture of continuous feedback.
The full range of the grade is $76,213 - $101,616 (120%) with a mid-point of $84,680
**Mōu | About you**
You will:
- have the mix of knowledge, skills, practices, and behaviours required by a modern policy practitioner to be able to deliver quality policy advice
- have a desire to continually learn and grow your policy skillset
- have the conceptual and analytical skills to provide solutions to ambiguous or complex problems.
- have highly developed communication skills, in particular written communication. Ideally you will have some competency in te reo Māori, or a willingness to learn
- be comfortable in an ao Māori environment and situations where tikanga is observed.
- have the confidence to engage with and build strong long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
