Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
- We are looking for an experienced senior advisor, familiar with all aspects of organisational Governance The role will see you connecting across the organisation to provide technical advice and manage governance committee processes
- This will include oversight of our SLT committees forward agendas and actions registers, preparation of Agendas and Minutes and working with report authors to ensure content and timeline requirements are met,
- Working closely with support staff to ensure committee meeting logistics and document management requirements are met.
- As a Senior Adviser you will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in specific areas of work, this includes working with committees' chairs, developing and supporting strategic advice and conversations. You will support the induction of new staff and provide ongoing mentoring.
- You will contribute to a range of continuous improvement initiatives including preparing guidance material, governance communications, and responding to a variety of requests for inputs into other workstreams.
- You will be involved in leading and promoting good governance practices through both your committee support and MPI's wider governance networks.
- You will also participate in inter-agency governance networks to keep up to date with best practices.
- You will provide support and lead aspects of MPI's Crown entity monitoring and appointment's role for the New Zealand Walking Access Commission, including preparing written advice for the responsible Minister.

This is predominantly an office-based position where being present and available to respond on the ground is important for your committee work, but with some flexible working possible.
Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role you will require a set of the following capabilities:

- Experience in secretariat functions for governance committees or senior executive teams
- A solid understanding of the machinery of government and ideally experience in Crown Entity monitoring, board appointments, Ministerial reporting and Cabinet processes
- Strong report writing and analysis skills, preferably in the public service context
- Experience designing, implementing and improving systems and processes
- Integrity, maturity and excellent communication skills
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or relevant experience
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and able to work with others to meet tight deadlines

You will be part of the Governance Team that works across the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to champion our governance framework and manages our Senior Leadership Team's (SLT) decision-making committees. Our team also monitors the operation and governance of a Crown Entity - the New Zealand Walking Access Commission.
Our Governance team is part of the Strategy, Governance & Performance Directorate which sits in the Compliance & Governance branch of MPI. Our Directorate's work contributes to ensuring there is confidence in the operation and direction of MPI. This is a small but mighty directorate, offering a positive team culture with a good reputation for delivery and working in a collegial environment across the entire organisation.
