Established in 1996, Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora provides top-notch health, education, and social services to all residents within the rohe of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau and the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

- Support the delivery of services that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring services are in line with Ministry of Health’s Whakamaua (Māori Health Action Plan) and the Framework for the Equity of Health for Māori. Pou Tikanga leads, promotes and supports the development of an organisational culture that accurately reflects positive aspects of Te Ao Māori including Te Reo and Tikanga Māori and most particularly ngā uarā (guiding principles) of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora.
Ensure a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment that meets the cultural support needs of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora kaimahi and Uri Haumate of our organisation. Responsible for programme development and monitoring of Kaupapa Māori framework Te Papamaengenge.
**Key Responsibilities of the role include**:
- In line with strategic direction, support the development and embedding of culturally appropriate tikanga and kawa across the organisation that aligns with Tūwharetoatanga e.g. organisational mihi whanau and marking of important celebrations.
- Through Te Papamanegenge deliver appropriate cultural training for kaimahi, Whānau, hapū, iwi, hāpori e.g. Te Reo Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural competence etc.
- Mentoring and support of waiata/karakia
- Design, deliver and/or organise wānanga, educating kaimahi in Mātauranga Māori, Te Papamaengenge therapies, assessing kaimahi ensuring that messaging and education delivered to uri is of highest standard, consistent and the same.
- Oversee and engage in cultural supervision
- Foster strong networks with hapū, iwi, rangatahi groups, kura kaupapa Māori, health, and external agencies
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, local employers, agencies and community providers
- Complete reporting requirements efficiently
- Tertiary qualified desired but not essential
- Previous experience working in a diverse organisation in a similar role
- Experienced leader of Tikanga in Māori and tauiwi environments
- Has the ability to translate text and written requirements from Te Reo to English and vice versa
- Excellent presentation skills
- Exceptional coach
- Strong understanding of TKKH and the Eastern Bay of Plenty communities
- Current valid full drivers licence
- Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
- Strong relationship and network management skills
- Organisational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Appreciation of Te Reo Māori and understanding of tikanga Māori
