Our award winning New Zealand coastal team is growing, and we are looking for a **Senior Associate Environmental Scientist (Coastal) **to join us. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated and high-performing team of professionals to deliver a range of significant projects for both public and private sector clients locally, nationally, and Australia - Pacific.
In this role, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing coastal adaptation plans that address the pressing issues of current and emerging coastal hazards with sea level rise for asset and community resilience. Your expertise will be blended with other science, engineering, modelling, and strategic planning professionals within the team to guide communities and asset managers in crafting strategies to adapt to the changing coastal environment.

**Responsibilities**:
Our aim is to expand our reputation for excellence across ANZ coastal hazard, resilience and adaptation space. As one of the leaders and work winners of our coastal team, your responsibilities will involve:
- Coastal Science: Use your in depth understanding of coastal processes to analyse the effects of sea level rise and other climate changes on the frequency, intensify, spatial distribution and impact of coastal hazards.
- Strategic Planning: Develop forward-thinking strategies that anticipate the challenges posed by changing coastlines. Use your knowledge and foresight to help communities and asset managers make informed decisions on the future use of coastal space while preserving the environment.
- Programme Management: Lead interdisciplinary teams to design and manage comprehensive coastal resilience and adaptation programs. Collaborate with other hazard scientists, engineers, social scientists, policy experts and land-use planners to ensure holistic solutions that integrate scientific rigor with community and society needs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicate scientific findings, risk assessments, and resilience/ adaptation plans to local communities, asset managers, government agencies, cultural guardians, and other stakeholders.
- Expert Evidence: As required the presentation of expert coastal evidence to consent or plan change hearing panels, and Environment court.
- Innovation: Stay at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies in coastal science and adaptation. Continuously seek innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness of resilience and adaptation plans.
- Client Engagement: Continuously network with existing and potential clients in both the local and national arena for new opportunities for Jacobs to provide expertise advice and services on coastal hazard risk, resilience and adaptation.
**Here’s What You’ll Need**: Qualifications / Experience**:
- Relevant tertiary education, preferably in environmental science, physical geography or engineering which included studies in coastal processes.
- At least five years working experience on relevant coastal process, hazard resilience or adaptation projects.
- Significant experience in writing proposals for, winning and leading both complex and smaller coastal projects in both the public and private sector.
- Adept in fostering networks and actively participating in industry discussions centered around safeguarding our coastal communities and environments.
**Location**
Members of our New Zealand coastal team are currently located in our Christchurch and Wellington offices. While either of these locations would be desirable, we would also consider an alternative location, particularly Auckland, working along side other water resources scientists and engineers located in that office.
