**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**:

- Do you have a passion for, and expertise in, Environmental Science? _We are seeking a dynamic researcher and teacher to join our Environmental Science programme in a continuing _position as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer _(equivalent to an assistant professor in the US System)_. The _School of Earth and Environment Te Kura Aronukurangi is the home school for the _Environmental_ Science Programme. Academics from across the Faculty of Science contribute to the Environmental Science programme and the successful applicant will be located within the School that best suits their research interests.

**Mōu | Who You Are**
We seek colleagues who will provide outstanding teaching and research in the rapidly growing Environmental Science programme at the University of Canterbury. We are looking for two exceptional research scientists committed to producing outstanding graduates.

Specialisations of particular interest include I) Climate change adaptation including indigenous approaches; II) Biodiversity and ecosystem change; III) Carbon and environmental change; and IV) Environmental Decision Making.

You will be expected to develop an externally-funded research programme and research linkages with Māori (Indigenous Peoples of Aotearoa New Zealand) iwi (tribes) and hapū (subtribes), Crown Research Institutes (e.g., Landcare and NIWA), industry and/or community groups. You will also have the opportunity to work with our indigenous academics, both within the school, and across campus, specifically through Te Waka Pākākano / The Office of Māori, Pacific and Equity.

Applicants require a PhD, an ability and willingness to deliver high quality teaching in environmental science at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and a commitment to world-class research in an area complementary to current strengths within our School.

You will demonstrate potential for academic excellence in teaching and research, be able to conduct innovative and effective lectures, laboratories, workshops, and field classes from first year through to postgraduate level, publish research at a high level as assessed by peer-reviewed publications, and engage with stakeholders. We are looking for an adaptable and collaborative colleague who can work with others to embrace opportunities that contribute to our core mission. Applicants will be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in Environmental Science.
- PhD in Environmental Science or related discipline.
- Post-doctoral research experience will be well regarded.
- Record of strong, collegial engagement.
- Record of high research productivity as demonstrated by an excellent record of publication in leading journals.
- Desire and demonstrated ability to generate external research income.
- Skills to contribute to, and develop, innovative research and teaching programmes in Environmental Science.
- Demonstrated ability, or clear potential, to be an excellent university-level academic. Field teaching skills and experience. Willingness to supervise undergraduate group and individual research projects is essential.
- Ability to encourage, facilitate and supervise the research of postgraduate students.

- Demonstrate an understanding of, and/or willingness to learn about, bicultural and multicultural aspects in Aotearoa New Zealand Society, including a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi, and display a willingness to engage professionally with diversity.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to take on administrative roles within a university setting.

You will join a multidisciplinary team actively engaged in Environmental and Sustainability research on scales from local to global. Te Kura Aronukurangi | School of Earth and Environment has a high national and international profile, and an excellent teaching, research, and field infrastructure. We have well-established research programmes and strong linkages with other research institutes, including groups working in sub-disciplines of Geology, Geospatial and Data Science, Physical and Human Geography, Environmental Science, natural hazards, and kaupapa Māori, with the Waterways Centre, and Gateway Antarctica residing within the School.
