The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering is a strong and forward-looking department, dedicated to excellence in both research and teaching. We aspire to be a productive, dynamic, creative and inspiring community that maintains an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment in which students and staff alike can flourish.

Our department is one of the largest at University of Canterbury, and one of the fastest growing in student numbers. We teach a diverse range of students from programmes across the University. We take care in supporting students in their learning and we are well resourced to help you with your teaching. Our teaching activities are highly collaborative, both within the Department and University wide. Our teaching teams are student-centred, proactive and feedback-seeking, and work in an open reflective cycle of design, deliver and review. Our diverse research interests and strong collaborative connections span many Departments across campus, and internationally.

Opportunities for collaboration within the Department are strong, with several research groups addressing fields relating to computer graphics, including deep learning, computer vision, immersive gaming, augmented reality, spatial interactive systems, and semi-autonomous robotic systems. There are also opportunities for collaboration with other groups across the University, including the Human Interface Technology Lab (HITLab, predominantly interested in AR/VR) and the School of Product Design (Applied Immersive Game Design), as well as the Southern Hemisphere's largest Digital Screen Campus, currently under development.

The opportunity is here now for you to help build the future of our department. For more information about our department and team, please visit our website.
