Auckland, New Zealand
- Full-time
- UoA Department Name: Technical Services
- Campus: Grafton Campus
- Contract Type: Fixed-Term
- Position Number: 55568152
**Company Description**:
**Waipapa Taumata Rau** **| The University of Auckland**
The University of Auckland creates globally transformative impacts through our distinctive strengths in world leading research, scholarship, teaching and collaborative partnerships, inspired by our unique position in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific.
The Liggins Institute is the University’s first large scale research institute. It is a world leading centre for translational research on fetal and child health, the impact of nutrition on health throughout life, genomic and epigenomic regulation of growth and development, and clinical trials in maternal and perinatal health.
**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
Our Liggins Institute is looking for a** Junior** **Database Developer** (ideally less than three years of industry experience) to join our team on a **full-time, 2-year fixed term** basis. You will build and maintain clinical research databases, including electronic, and web-based systems, for our clinical health research studies.
You will work with the Human Health Research Data Management team, principal investigators and study coordinators to develop bespoke databases and tools for completing study processes such as eligibility screening and randomisation, treatment allocation, data collection, data monitoring and reporting of research data.
This role will have you connect and meet with researchers to agree on requirements and project timelines before you begin developing bespoke databases using our **REDCap** system (knowledge of **ALEA** would also be valuable). You will predominantly work using **web-based.NET**, **JavaScript **(jQuery/Kendo/Angular, CSS) and **SQL Server **and **MS Access.**
You will be joining a team of four, that runs on a pretty flat management structure, with three Developers in total, including yourself. Although you will take the lead on your projects, you do have the support of the team, as we work together to troubleshoot technical issues and tackle deadlines.
We have a flexible working from home structure, but we do find that we collaborate better when in the office together, so you are likely to be in the office three days a week. You will be based in our Liggins Institute building, which is located in Grafton, on Park Road.
At any one time, the team is running 30+ bespoke projects, so your days will be varied as you split your time between taking in new projects, working on existing databases and fixes, running, and participating in meetings and helping with improvement initiatives. This role will develop your database creation and back-end development skills. It will also give you the opportunity to enhance your stakeholder management abilities in a positive environment that is making a genuine and important impact on medical research globally.
For more detailed information about this role, please view the Position Description.
**He kōrero mōu | About you**
Ideally, we are looking for someone who is technically able to develop databases to an agreed scope with the ability to run meetings and ask relevant questions in the early stages to save us from adjusting the product after the brief has been agreed upon.
To be considered, you will need demonstrable experience in developing databases, back-end programming experience and a tertiary qualification in Data Science, Health Science, Computer Science, Public Health, or similar.
Because this role will require a good amount of creative thinking and problem solving, we are seeking someone who considers themselves to be a critical thinker and team player when it comes to tricky technical problems.
**We are seeking**:
- Up to 3 years of professional experience.
- Experience in building and administering database platforms using **SQL Server** and** MS Access**.
- Experience with electronic data capture systems used in clinical research; **REDCap**, **REDCap Cloud** or **ALEA** would be highly desirable.
We expect that someone who has worked in a junior role as a Data Analyst, Coder, Programmer, Database Administrator, Database Analyst, Software Engineer, or.NET Developer could have the transferable skills for this position.
**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What we offer**
