Based within the Technology department, this permanent, full-time position will fulfil a core role with two primary purposes:

- to ensure stable operation of databases in NZME. This includes design, installation, monitoring, support and performance tuning, and

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Ensure that databases and systems are stable, reliable, and highly available and meet the business requirement for service.
- Perform database and software installation, patching, upgrades and reconfigurations in a timely manner.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning and resource optimisation as required (in consultation with vendors/suppliers).
- Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues as required.
- Monitor database resources and health to avoid loss of services and ensure appropriate alerting and logging is in place.
- Assist in maintaining the integrity of NZME’s Technology environment in accordance with business needs, ensuring regulatory compliance, privacy and cyber-security best-practice is adhered to.
- Perform and ensure integrity of backups and restore of data as required.
- Provide continuity of services in the event of software or hardware failure.
- Demonstrate ownership of issues and solutions and be results-oriented.
- Ensure that users are granted appropriate access to databases and database systems and that system security is not compromised.
- Database security set up at machine and database level using Active Directory groups where possible.
- Database general trouble shooting e.g. killing locked spids, access issues.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support as required and assigned.

**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**:

- Must Haves
- Microsoft SQL Server - in-depth and up-to-date knowledge from an administration perspective.
- Microsoft Server Operating System & Application support.
- Detail oriented and possessing excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Time management skills and ability to work independently and get results.
- Ability to adapt to and handle change as well as multi-task & prioritise multiple responsibilities.
- Lateral thinker, ability to research and recommend the most cost-effective and innovative solutions for the company.
- Should Haves
- Development expertise (particularly SQL Scripting, Visual Basic (.Net), Windows Command Shell, PowerShell, ActiveX, Python, C#).
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar level role.
- Nice to Haves
- In-depth knowledge of databases in addition to Microsoft SQL Server is highly desirable (e.g. MySQL).
- Cloud-native database expertise.
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Advanced understanding of systems' methodologies, techniques and technology.
