- Salary between $132,417 and $160,472 depending on level of experience. Tēnei tūranga - About the Role: The Principal Advisor reports directly to the Manager, System Design and Implementation.

They are responsible for supporting the Manager with overseeing the teams work programme and helping ensure that projects are delivered to a high standard within timeframes.

They will share their depth of knowledge and experience to help turn complex policy and technical information into practical, fit for purpose design solutions, guidance and operational policy for the building system.

They will consider existing behavioural change strategies, approaches and tools across other regulatory systems to shape their thinking and proactively identity areas for improvement.

They will support staff across the System Design and Implementation teams with building capability.

As an influential and persuasive communicator, they’ll take people on the journey with them, and recognise the importance of working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure the System Design and Implementation teams work reflects priorities.

**We are looking for someone who**:

- proactive, strategic and positive
- has demonstrated experience in working with and leading complex policy projects with staff across different teams and disciplines
- brings a commitment to developing our team’s culture
- possesses excellent influencing, interpersonal and communication skills
- has experience managing contractual arrangements for out-sourced service provision; and
- has knowledge and experience of design thinking principles, solutions design and operational policy
- has knowledge or experience in writing guidance documents and/or developing policies for secondary legalisation, such as methodologies or rules. The work programme for this Principal Advisor will focus on leading sector engagement work, including:

- proactively developing and implementing a strategic approach to how MBIEs building regulatory teams work in partnership with sector participants and stakeholders
- leading work to develop persona identities for our key target audience groups to ensure we engage consistently and correctly across the most impactful engagement channels
- providing options and advise to the leadership teams on partnership approaches or agreements with key sector stakeholders
- helping to build stakeholder engagement and partnership capability for the building regulatory system, and
- providing leadership input into stakeholder activity to support the launch of priority initiatives to key sector participants and stakeholders. The Principal Advisor will need to be able to proactively think about how to drive change and innovation, for example, how to change people's behaviour and the way they think about designing, constructing and operating buildings.

Naturally you'll have strong leadership and relationship management skills, with a proven ability to influence stakeholders. This is a highly collaborative role that will need to actively build and maintain relationships across the building regulatory system within MBIE and to councils.

About the System Design and Implementation team The System Design and Implementation team is responsible for implementation, sector engagement and information and education of the building regulatory system and policies.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Leading implementation work for new policies, including designing and developing relevant implementation and operational policy material (such as guidance documents).
- Contributing design thinking to policy and technical team’s regulation development work or technical documents.
- Ensuring a seamless implementation and transition to delivery and operational teams.
