**Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity**

We have a two-year fixed-term role based in our Te Kāhui Takutai Moana team located in Wellington.

The Principal Advisor works within the Māori Crown Relations team - Te Kāhui Takutai Moana and supports the work of Te Arawhiti by administering the Marine and Coastal Area Act 2011 (the Takutai Moana Act) and the Ngā Rohe Moana o Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Porou Act 2019. These Acts enable iwi, hapū, and whanau to seek recognition of their customary interests in the Takutai Moana. The Principal Advisor may also, from time to time, work on projects across Te Arawhiti.

The Principal Advisor will be responsible for strategic leadership of the public-sector capability workstream. This includes:

- Supporting the public sector to implement the Te Ao Māori Capability Framework
- Leading the implementation of a training programme and tools to meet the learning needs for various work force groups
- Identifying opportunities to assist the public sector to develop its ability to engage meaningfully with Māori through a more coordinated approach to building agency capability
- Analysing, test and evaluate learning outcomes on an on-going basis
- Providing professional leadership in, and improving the quality of the work undertaken by the Māori Crown Relations team - Te Kāhui Takutai Moana; and
- Enhancing the skills of Te Arawhiti Advisors/Analysts through involvement in staff development activities

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience
- Able to build and maintain positive relationships and effective networks across and within organisations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to relate to a wide range of people at all levels

Work experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience; and a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Experience providing advice to Ministers, Cabinet Committees and Select Committees
- Knowledge of Māori tikanga and experience with Crown-Māori perspectives and frameworks
- Able to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships and effective networks across and within organisations
- Demonstrate a high level of business acumen.
- Experience leading and / or managing complex work programmes and projects to successful completion
- Providing intellectual and professional leadership across and within organisations, including experience mentoring and developing other employees and peers
- Leading and communicating with a wide range of audiences on complex issues
- Working with senior managers
- Understanding of public sector systems and processes, including accountability requirements and the use of performance information to inform decision-making
- Proven experience communicating with a wide range of audiences and influencing on complex issues
- Has training and/or experience on a toolkit of methodologies which may include and may not be limited to customer-centric service improvement, lean methodologies and design principles, project management, and operational policy implementation
