As the Training Systems Specialist (TSS) you will be conducting and assisting with the delivery of tactical and navigational training to RNZN Bridge Warfare Officers (BWO)/GLX courses delivered by Serco (or NTO). Utilising the Bridge Simulator as the primary training and evaluation medium. You must be able to develop and maintaining expert systems knowledge within the simulation operating systems, learning & development, design, preparation, and maintenance of training courseware applicable to RNZN BWO training courses.
Working closely with the Simulation Specialist Senior Instructor (SSSI), in a simulator, developing and exploring maritime combat scenarios. These scenarios will form part of the training delivered to the BWOs and must meet specified RNZN learning objectives.
The Role
- Collaborate on aspects of courseware development, learning and development and training materials as directed by the TSM(S), Portfolio Manager (BWOC Training), Operations Manager (Training) or the CMTS in the absence of the TSM(S)
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of the RNZN warfare procedures, aviation procedures, fleet work (Ship Manoeuvring), Action Information Organisation (AIO) in support of BWO/GLX training
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge and currency on the functionality of RNZN Bridge Simulator Operating systems
- Support the TSM(S) in directly or indirectly developing and delivering the RNZN Bridge Simulator Operator course
- Support the TSM(S) in directly or indirectly developing and delivering BWO/GLX learning modules including Tactical Communications, AIO and Aviation commensurate with qualification and experience
- Assist with the configuration of the Bridge Simulator system in preparation for training, including but not limited to, system and bridge setup, shut down, initial defect identification and defect reporting in accordance with RNZN standard operating procedures
- Complete NZDF College / RNZN learning and development courses and other such courses that provide qualifications which support and enhance Serco’s ability to delivery training services.
- Complete RNZN annual awareness training courses as required
**Additional Role Requirements**:
- Must have served in the RNZN, RAN, RCN or RN as a BWO; Communications Warfare Specialist (CWS), or Combat Systems Specialist (CSS) or equivalent
- Minimum of 12 months experience as a BWO, CWS, or CSS on a Major Fleet Unit (MFU) within the last 8 years.
- Participated in multinational exercises whilst embarked in a RNZN Major Fleet Unit (MFU) (or equivalent) within the last 8 years (e.g. Talisman Sabre or RIMPAC) (Desirable)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance of TSV, NV1, or above or equivalent security clearance recognised within the Five Eyes (FVEY) alliance (US, UK, NZ, AUS & CAN)
- Successfully completed the Basic Officer of the Watch (OOW(B) Course (Highly Desirable)
- Successfully completed Communications Information Systems (CIS) Tier II course (Desirable) or equivalent and attained the minimum rank of Able Rate (min 12mths experience)
- Successfully completed Combat Systems Specialist Training course or equivalent and attained the minimum rank of Able Rate (min 12mths experience)
Onsite Requirements
This is predominately a Monday-Friday role, however you must be flexible to work a shift roster (morning, forenoons, afternoons or nights)
**Normal operating hours**:
- Monday to Friday 08:00-16:00
**During shift work operating hours**:
- Monday 05:00-23:59
- Tuesday to Thursday 00:01-23:59
- Friday 00:01-16:00
