The Commission is a Crown Agent with a board responsible to the Minister of Health.

**Prevent avoidable deaths by supporting the quality of perinatal and maternal mortality reviews.**
**The role**:
- Ensure mortality review processes are thorough, consistent, and aimed at preventing future deaths.
- Support perinatal and maternal data collection, reconciliation and classification accuracy.
- Train and mentor local mortality review coordinators and review teams.
- Liaise with clinicians, local coordinators and multi-sector partners to capture all relevant death notifications.
- Lead continuous improvement of local review standards, guidelines and data processes.
- Encourage use of Te Pou Maori responsive rubric for reviewing deaths of Maori.
- Help translate national recommendations into local practice and monitor implementation.
- Document findings, decisions and recommendations clearly and maintain confidentiality.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across health, consumer and whanau networks.**
**About you**:
- Relevant qualification in health or public health.
- Practical understanding of health systems, patient safety and quality improvement.
- Experience supporting distributed data collection, training and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with mortality classification systems such as International Classification of Diseases and perinatal and maternal -specific coding.
- Strong attention to data quality, ability to identify gaps and drive reconciliation.
- Clear written and verbal communication with plain-language reporting skills.
- Ability to design and deliver effective training for local teams.
- Ability to maintain emotional resilience when regularly exposed to sensitive or distressing material.
- Understanding of health equity in New Zealand and awareness of the impact social and cultural factors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to cultural safety and anti-racism.
- Digitally confident with Microsoft Office and Teams; strong time-management and process-improvement skills.
