**About the Role**

We are seeking a senior professional to lead risk and assurance across Hutt City Council and the wider Council Group. This is a unique opportunity to influence strategic outcomes and embed strong risk and governance practices across the organisation. Key responsibilities include:

- Lead Risk & Assurance: Provide expert leadership in risk and assurance management, including the delivery of the internal audit programme.
- Drive Best Practice: Ensure alignment of key assurance activities and promote a mature risk culture across the Council Group.
- Support Senior Leaders: Partner with the Corporate Leadership Team to embed governance and compliance best practice.
- Manage Stakeholders: Build strong relationships and engage confidently with senior stakeholders, including elected members.
- Enable Capability: Work closely with staff to grow risk awareness and capability across the organisation.

**About You**

You'll bring a practical and collaborative approach to risk and assurance leadership, with the ability to engage confidently across all levels of the organisation. With a strong understanding of risk frameworks and compliance, you'll help embed best practice across the Council Group and support teams to strengthen their risk maturity. Ideally, you'll also have public sector experience and a track record of coordinating assurance activity to improve efficiency and outcomes.

We're looking for an experienced and forward-thinking leader with:

- Significant experience in risk, audit, and assurance at a senior level
- A relevant accounting qualification with a number of years post-qualification experience
- Proven ability to engage and influence across all levels, including senior leadership and governance
- Sound knowledge of internal controls, risk frameworks, and audit processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to manage robust conversations
