- Located in the Central Region
- Permanent, full-time opportunity
Join Te Whatu Ora at a key time of change where you will meaningfully contribute to our kaupapa of creating a more equitable, accessible, cohesive and people-centred health system. This is mahi that will improve the health and well-being of everyone in Aotearoa, and we've got an opportunity for you to be part of it
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Pae Ora legislation gives us the mandate and opportunity to create a system of commissioning that has the needs of whānau and communities at its heart. In this new model, we are not ‘commissioners' holding the power. We are Te Tiriti o Waitangi partners and allies, we are listeners of diverse voices, we are holders of the space for communities and whānau to lead. We are a team of teams who live within and reflect the communities we serve.
We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process. We work in partnership with our Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.
The Group Manager, Regional Service Improvement will be responsible for overseeing a team of quality assurance and improvement advisors tasked with ensuring NGO funded services meet clinical quality and patient safety requirements. The team will also include advisors tasked with implementing clinical good practice around well child services, advanced care planning, and any other budget related quality improvement initiatives around funded providers.
Mōu | About you
You will bring the ability to think conceptually and anticipate the impact of decisions on long-term outcomes and develop responses in consultation with key stakeholders. In addition, you will have experience leading clinical service improvement teams, experience in quality assurance and improvement processes, commissioning across a wide variety of primary and community health services, and high performing teams.
You will have a passion for ensuring our health services respond to the health needs of our communities, achieve equity across population groups, are efficient and improve Māori health equity. If you have a strong drive to deliver and are eager to make a difference in the healthcare industry, then we want to hear from you.
This role manages the central region, made up of Mid-Central, Wellington Region, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa. Ideally, you will be based in one of these locations, but this can be discussed at interview stage.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Needs to draw on extensive experience in varied environments, stretching 10 years or more including:
- Demonstrated experience in leading system and service design
- Experience leading highly skilled, high performing and engaged management and professional teams in a multi-faceted and demanding environment
- Demonstrated experience in the development of high quality and timely business strategies and initiatives across a large organisation
- Demonstrated experience at a leadership level for developing, maintaining and influencing relationships and partnerships across sectors and organisations including with Māori and Pacific Peoples and groups
- A relevant tertiary or professional qualification
**Ka kawea e koe | You will bring**:

Ko te mahi e tika ana mō te ao hurihuri nei |Work that suits today's ever -changing world
Te Whatu Ora supports flexible and hybrid working for our kaimahi. In roles that don't require an in-person element, we encourage you to ‘work from where you are.' We want our national teams to be made up of diverse people from across the motu, just like our health system.
Nau mai, uru mai | Come and join us
When you join us, you become part of transforming the health system. This is a once in a life-time change, that will touch the lives of everyone in Aotearoa, and future generations.
Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining together of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.
We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures greater access, experience and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system - Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.
