Whakatane, New Zealand Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Full time

**Location**: Whakatāne

**Job type**: Permanent Full Time

**Department**: Learner Success

**Position**: Non-teaching

**Vacancy Reference Number**: 24LS15

Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi offers the highest standards of tertiary education from certificate to doctorate levels, including programmes for international scholars of indigenous studies. Our vision is to promote, grow and sustain Māori language, knowledge and culture, according to tikanga Māori practice.

This is an exciting time to be part of Māori and indigenous scholarship, and our success relies on the excellence of our people and our connection to the communities that we serve. We offer a stimulating teaching, research and professional working environment in one of our three campuses: our beautiful main campus in Whakatāne, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Te Tai Tokerau (Northland).

Learner facilitators from the Awhi Tauira Student Support Team assist tauira enrolled in our on-site programmes in Whakatāne, Tāmaki Makaurau, Wairoa, and Kaikohe. Additionally, off-site locations, including marae and other delivery venues dispersed across the motu, receive assistance. The modalities of delivery encompass classroom instruction, noho marae, Wānanga, and online (eWānanga) learning, which are conducted on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

It is the responsibility of the Awhi Tauira team to ensure that encouragement, co-creation, and support are central to the Tauira learning journey. This is achieved through:

- Facilitating the achievement of the Awhi Tauira workplan, objectives, and results by establishing and maintaining a network of collaborative relationships within and between team members, spanning beyond the Wānanga;
- Collaborating throughout the Wānanga to ascertain effective execution and identify areas that require enhancement (including assessments) in order to maximise the success of our tauira;
- Determining opportunities, risks, and recommendations to guarantee the efficient provision of assistance to the Wānanga educational outcomes, initiatives, and tauira learning objectives; and
- Fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging among tauira, ensuring their active participation in the Wānanga offerings.

The Team leader position is presented with a stimulating and demanding opportunity to assume accountability for guiding the student support team in terms of operations, mentorship, and leadership, as well as to facilitate learner support for tauira, which will aid them in successfully finishing their selected academic programmes and developing into self-reliant scholars.

Your prior experience collaborating with tauira will empower you to strategise and execute engagement and support initiatives that explicitly promote Learner Success. Additionally, you will be in charge of guiding the Student Support team in the process of perfecting schoolwide approaches to pastoral care, peer mentoring, and wellbeing.

Furthermore, your exceptional interpersonal abilities will play a pivotal role in forging robust alliances and intimate rapport with an extensive array of internal and external stakeholders. This will be exemplified by your leadership approach and capacity to cultivate a high-performing group that is committed to improving the student experience and delivering exceptional service.

Additionally, our selected applicant will possess:

- A master's degree or higher, preferably a graduate degree that is pertinent to the Wānanga portfolio of programmes.
- Prior experience in an advisory or support role for student learning of a comparable nature.
- Possess a teaching qualification and adult teaching experience, preferably proficiency in utilising online instructional and learning platforms.
- Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and experience providing pastoral care for tertiary sector students are both advantageous qualifications.
- Proficiency in Tikanga Māori within an academic framework.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted private motor vehicle licence at the time of writing.
