Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
As a member of the Intelligence Directorate of the National Public Health Service (NPHS), the Chief Advisor Māori has shared accountability for the analytic and intelligence products for workstreams within NPHS. You will provide guidance to the Director of Intelligence, the Senior Leadership Team, and members of the Intelligence team, and be a key link to counterparts in Te Aka Whai Ora.
The Intelligence Directorate is a new structure, a central population and public health operational Intelligence team that is regionally networked and collaborative across organisations and agencies.
The establishment of the Intelligence directorate in NPHS gives us the opportunity to review our data, analytical techniques, and products, to ensure we are honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our data and products need to be informative and interpretable; they also need to reflect the voices and stories of our communities.
This is a full time, permanent role.
Mōu | About you
You will have a background in influencing and guiding senior leaders alongside supporting the accurate capturing and reporting of data. You will have extensive research or analytical experience with a relevant tertiary level professional qualification in public health, epidemiology, data science or informatics.

This role requires and/or would benefit from the following
- Significant experience in using data and intelligence products to improve health outcomes, reduce inequities and improve the health of Māori and communities is essential.
- Ability to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely
- The ability to tailor complex messages to a range of audiences including clinical, government, executive/senior managers and the public
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow
