**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
We have an extraordinary opportunity for a Dental Assistant to join our OMS team. We are a stand-alone service looking for two enthusiastic Dental Assistants. In this role, you will assist our OMFS SMOs, Registrars and House Officers with OMS and Dental procedures in our hospital clinics and general anaesthetic settings.

**Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service**
The OMS Department provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island of New Zealand. Hamilton is a level 1 major trauma centre and one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres. Waikato is the major trauma centre for the region serving a catchment population of approximately 1 million.
Day to day roles include:
- Assisting with Biopsies of lesions around the mouth and face
- Assisting with Surgical Extractions
- Assisting with Suturing of facial lacerations
- Assisting with Taking impressions
- Assisting with dressing changes on our post-operative patients
- Assisting with Maxillofacial consult clinics
- Assisting with Preparation, maintenance and sterilisation of Nasal Endoscopy
- Assisting with Oral Surgery Procedures under Sedation
- Assisting With Maxillofacial Minor Oral Procedure Clinics (MOPS)
- Setting up and cleaning after consult clinics/procedures
- Assisting with try ins of bite splints
- Assisting or filling out WESP’s for Maxillofacial patients
- Assisting on the ACUTE Clinic with procedures and consults
- Taking Intra-oral Radiographs and taking CBCT scans
- Assisting with Oral Hygiene Instruction
- Assisting Maxillofacial Surgery CNC in running OMS department
**Mōu | About you**
Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Ability to prioritise effectively
- Good communication, conscientious and reliable
- Experience working as a dental assistant (preferable), healthcare assistant or sterilisation assistant/technician. You will receive additional training in relation to CBCT/OPG imaging.
- An interest in working in a hospital setting with complex cases
