Our purpose
Here at Datacom we connect people and technology to solve challenges, create opportunities and discover new possibilities for the communities we live in.
About the role
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our rapidly growing Hawke’s Bay based Team. As a member of the local Datacom Team, and specifically a pivotal part of the highly collaborative national Platform Engineering Team, you’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional technical services and first-class customer service to each and every customer you work with. This role has a mix of both on-site work and remote support, being part of a team that rotates on an on-call after-hours roster.
What you’ll do
As a Systems Engineer you’ll be providing technical support to our Managed Services customers, both locally and remotely across NZ. You’ll take responsibility for the IT operations of allocated customers, ensuring we continually exceed expectations. You’ll ensure the customer is always one step ahead by proactively providing strategic advice and recommendations on all things IT, with a no surprises policy. You’ll also get to do some ad hoc support work and project engagements too.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role you’ll first and foremost need an open-minded ‘can do’ attitude and an affinity for customer satisfaction.
You will need to bring at least 3-5 years' experience in the IT industry, preferably within an MSP, and have solid hands-on experience with mainstream hardware and software technologies such as the Microsoft eco-system; both traditional and cloud, Fortinet, Cisco and Meraki networking products, underpinning technologies such as virtualisation platforms and the periphery technologies that accompany these such as security, backup, and disaster recovery tools.
**More specifically, your technical experience should include**:
- Microsoft Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, ADFS, DHCP, DFS)
- Microsoft 10/11 Operating Systems
- Microsoft 365 Applications
- Microsoft Azure and M365 Administration
- Server and Storage Hardware (HPE, IBM, Dell, Nutanix, etc)
- Networking, Firewalls and Wireless solutions (Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki, etc)
- Virtualisation platform such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V
- Backup and Disaster Recovery technologies (Veeam, Datto, AvePoint, etc)
- Security frameworks and solutions (Defender, Crowdstrike, etc)
- Understanding of SQL and other DB platforms
- Understanding or Linux Operating Systems
- Certification in Microsoft and/or AWS Infrastructure as a Service products
Non-technically, you will have a very strong affinity for customer service and be a natural ‘people person’ who thrives on developing and maintaining internal relationships while building long-standing strategic partnerships with our customers.
