Are you a skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist ready to step into a leadership role? We - re seeking a Technical Lead - Core Biochemistry to support our high-performing team at Canterbury Health Laboratories. This is an exciting opportunity to lead by example, ensure operational excellence, and provide high-quality diagnostic services that impact patient care across our region.
**About the Role**
As the Technical Lead, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance for the Core Biochemistry laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality and timely diagnostic testing. Your focus will be on maintaining technical standards, supporting quality assurance, mentoring staff, and ensuring a safe and effective laboratory environment.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including assay verification/validation, workflow enhancements, and implementation of best practices in laboratory automation.
- Provide technical mentorship and training to laboratory staff, ensuring competency in operating and maintaining Core Biochemistry equipment.
- Work closely with clinical teams, pathologists, and other laboratory sections to ensure effective communication and service delivery.
- Support the Section Head in troubleshooting and resolving operational or technical issues, contributing to smooth day-to-day laboratory functioning.
- Lead quality control processes and ensure adherence to IANZ accreditation standards and internal laboratory protocols.
- Perform both manual and automated sample processing including:
- Paediatric and short sample handling
- Blood gas analysis and manual result entry
- Test additions and referral processing
- Operation of DxA 5000 track and associated analysers
- Operate and monitor laboratory middleware and IT systems to ensure accurate data transfer, result validation, and system integrity across platforms.

**Qualifications & Requirements**
- Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
- Current Practising Certificate
- Demonstrated technical expertise in Core Biochemistry testing
- Commitment to professional development and training others
- Strong knowledge of quality standards and laboratory safety
