Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) plays a multifaceted role as a key healthcare institution in Aoteoroa, New Zealand. The primary functions involve supporting Te Whatu Ora in the Waitaha, Canterbury Region with laboratory testing and offering support to Te Tai o Poutini. As a prominent tertiary reference and teaching laboratory, CHL actively contributes to research and development while upholding international recognition within the healthcare sector.
CHL's diverse service offerings encompass various critical areas. These include Anatomical Pathology Services, Core Services, Genetics, Training and Development, Laboratory Information Services, Microbiology and Virology Services, Point of Care testing, Quality Management and Specialist Services in both acute and community settings. CHL partners with labs in Taranaki and Hawkes Bay, as well as working collaboratively across Aoteoroa.
**Mō te tūnga | About the Role**
As the Divisional Lead in Laboratory Services, you will play a crucial role in leading an engaged workforce, operational and strategic planning as well as working in partnership with the leadership team. Reporting to the Group Director of operations your role is to manage the day to day operations of the pathology and laboratory services at CHL. You will be responsible for maintaining and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve operational excellence.

- In this role you will be responsible for:_
- Lead and inspire teams to ensure the operational performance and delivery of our services is maintained at the highest level.
- Create strong employee engagement through staff development and continuous improvement, promoting a culture of growth and empowerment.
- Collaborate with the Leadership team to support staff budgets, planned use of FTE, and succession planning.
- Oversee contract negotiations, business cases, and financial performance to ensure the services financial health.
- Monitor the performance of the service against national, regional and local targets and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on strategic plans, emergency plans and business continuity plans ensuring active employee involvement and ownership. Perform other duties within the scope of the role as agreed upon with your manager.

- Requirements:_
To be eligible for the role of Divisional Lead laboratory Services, you should possess:
- A qualification (or expertise) in the field of Medical Laboratory Science.
- A tertiary qualification in a business discipline or demonstrable relevant experience.
- A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in operational and strategic leadership in a complex health related environment.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to negotiate, resolve conflict and positively influence and motivate others.
- Experience of leading teams, including managing complex dynamics.
- Experience in managing projects across complex stakeholder groups.
- Political awareness and ability to navigate complexity effectively.
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.
