**Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role**
We are looking for a senior nurse to join the orthopaedic team in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist ' Orthopaedic (Adult Population)
The CNS Orthopaedic is a clinical expert who uses advanced nursing knowledge and skills for direct care and to influence the care of other clinicians, with the role impacting on high quality clinical care and equitable health outcomes.
The CNS influences nursing practice and improves patient outcomes by utilising advanced nursing knowledge, evidence based research and critical thinking. The CNS role undertakes a number of activities including; direct care delivery, assessment and planning; education to patients, whanau, inpatient and outpatient staff; nurse led clinics; inpatient support for complex patients; reviewing and creating documents, guidelines and policies, troubleshooting inpatient and outpatient queries.
This senior nurse provides expertise and specialty advice while interacting and working in primary, secondary and tertiary environments. The CNS is a clinical expert in orthopaedic care and will promote and influence health promotion, long term condition wellness, risk reduction, management of symptoms and functional problems in relation to people with complex orthopaedic conditions.
Ensuring that current systems and processes allow for efficiency while improving and developing the service as change occurs is a key part of the role. You will provide clinical expertise leadership in the management of patients with orthopaedic conditions across services
You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to negotiate with key stakeholders in a busy and dynamic environment.
This role is based in Wellington Regional Hospital, however you will be working closely with services in regional hospitals and in the community to facilitate care.
**Mō tō mātou rōpū ' About our team**
The Orthopaedic service provides for the management of major injuries and fractures at Wellington Hospital and treatment of injuries, congenital, infective, degenerative and malignant disorders of the musculoskeletal system at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals.
A regional tertiary service is provided for patients with complex major trauma, revision joint replacement, spinal disorders, scoliosis, paediatric and hand surgery.
Services are provided on an outpatient, day case and inpatient basis. Very small numbers are treated in the community.
Orthopaedic patients for secondary care come mainly from the Wellington region, Kapiti Coast and the southern-end of Wairarapa for services purchased by the DHB and ACC.

**Qualifications/Knowledge**
- Relevant post-graduate qualification is a Clinical Postgraduate Diploma (required) with support to work towards Clinical Masters
Postgraduate prerequisite papers for undertaking a prescribing practicum to enable designated RN prescribing in primary health and specialty teams (or attained within an agreed timeframe)
- Working towards a Clinical Masters in Nursing
- Expert speciality knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NZ health system and the DHB environment systems and processes.
- Knowledge of the trends and emerging issues for the nursing profession.
**Experience**
- A minimum of three years' full-time equivalent practice in the area they intend to prescribe, with at least one year of the total practice in New Zealand or a similar healthcare context.
- Expert level on the PDRP as Expert Senior needs to applied when in the role (or attained within an agreed timeframe)
Skills.
- Advanced clinical assessment and knowledge of: pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment and diagnostic reasoning in relation to the clinical management of, and prescribing for, patients with long-term and common conditions in New Zealand, within area of specialty.
- Expert speciality knowledge and skills to share this for others practice development.
