We are Te Whatu Ora, Te Toka Tumai, Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. **Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
The Nurse Specialist - Māori Health role has a focus on Māori as a population group and requires dual expertise in Māori health advocacy and advanced clinical practice.
The role is informed by specialist knowledge of long-standing Māori Health inequities and the systemic barriers which continue to impact the achievement of equitable health outcomes for whānau Māori. The Nurse Specialist - Māori Health will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to provide expert advice, care co-ordination, resources and support to healthcare professionals engaging with whānau Māori.
We are looking for a Nurse Specialist - Māori Health, to join our expanding Intermediate Care team. Te Toka Tumai’s Intermediate Care service is comprised of a 60 bed virtual hospital ward which delivers hospital-level acute health care services, offering a safe alternative option to hospital care, utilising our Interim Care Programme within Aged Residential Care (20 beds) and our Hospital in the Home (HiTH) services (40 beds) within our patient’s home.
As a virtual ward within Te Toka Tumai, clinical safety is assured with expansion of the multidisciplinary team to include:
- Medical oversight
- Nursing, including Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialists and RN’s
- Allied Health, including Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Practice Supervisor
- Nurse Specialists Maori Health and Oranga Coordinators who are embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi actions, delivering equity focused care and providing holistic care beyond the current diagnosis
- Pacific Health Clinical Nurse Specialists who are delivering equity focused care delivery
- Community Liaison Clinicians who in-reach across inpatient settings to facilitate discharging to any of the appropriate community pathways
- Social Worker who addresses the social determinants of health of patients and whānau
Within Intermediate Care our team can visit patients up to twice a day providing wrap around care with the required skill set to administer infusions and medications, perform blood draws, undertake point-of-care testing, conduct virtual consultations, address unmet social needs, provide in-home rehabilitation and support for patients and whānau to improve self-directed care.”
The role will have dual report lines to the Community and Long Term Condition Directorate Māori Health Lead and the Intermediate Care Charge Nurse. Māori Health Provider Services will provide overall leadership (rangatiratanga) and the Directorate with provide reciprocal support (manaakitanga).

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
We are looking for Registered Nurses with:
- Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- PDRP Proficient or Expert or with a supported pathway
- Post Graduate certificate/diploma in speciality nursing practice or working towards
- Demonstrate advanced nursing practice with a focus on Māori health advocacy and leadership
