**The Role / Person**
Demands on the Timaru District’s critical roading infrastructure are increasing and maintaining our 1,700km road network is a significant challenge for Timaru District Council
We are now looking for a Road Network Operations Technician to join our Land Transport Group. This is a pivotal role at the centre of our Road Maintenance Contract, acting as the Engineer’s Representative and working closely with our contractor to deliver great outcomes for the community. Success in the role comes from strong communication, collaborative working, and technical capability across fault identification, root cause analysis, and maintenance treatments. You’ll be stepping into a well-established and highly respected space within the team, with the opportunity to build on a decade of expertise. As a team we pride ourselves on efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement, and it shows, with our network consistently performing strongly against our peers for both quality and cost. This role is key to keeping it that way.
You will be a committed and adaptable team player, able to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, stakeholders, and the public. You will have solid knowledge of engineering principles, road construction and maintenance, asset management (including RAMM), and contract management. A relevant NZQA Level 6 qualification or equivalent experience is required, along with confidence in using technology.
**The District**
Timaru District is a thriving and innovative community. It is the central hub for the South Island, servicing a large agricultural heartland, with a growing economy that provides the import and export gateway for primary sectors. We boast a Top 10 most loved beach in New Zealand and have access to mountains, rivers and lakes, making Timaru an ideal destination for recreational, sporting and cultural pursuits.
Let’s not forget about that 7 minute commute to work
**The Organisation**
The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.
