Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Work alongside our frontline Compliance Officers in the Food Compliance and Response team in New Zealand's Food Safety.
You will work alongside a team of 38, a mix of Food compliance officers and Analysts that pull together during those big recalls all around New Zealand.
You will support operational food sector responses and investigations by collecting and analysing data and reporting on trends around the country where outbreaks may arise involving food sold and manufactured in NZ.
NZFS ensures producers and growers have the best opportunities to thrive and grow their business's. We want to make sure consumers have the knowledge that the food in front of them is safe, sustainable and the best product for them, their whānau and friends.

Mōu - About You

**You will need to have**:

- Excellent computer literacy skills including Excel and Microsoft Office suite of products and database skills
- Proficient in Data analysis and recognising trends
- Team player who can actively contribute new ideas to the team
- Takes ownership of their own Mahi
- Operational database experience.
- Experience in developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired
- Qualification in food discipline or environmental health.
- Strong experience in a food related industry with a vast knowledge around food.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
This is a close-knit team that works towards MPI's vision of providing safe and sustainable food products within NZ working with our own branch teams and other directorates all around the country. We ensure business are adhering to the food legislation such as the Food Act, Wine Act, The Australia NZ Food Standards Code & Animal Products Act.
Every year NZFS Compliance and Response teams around the country meet face to face to participate in team building exercises and development opportunities.

The Food Compliance and Response directorate is responsible for protecting public health by:

- We investigate complaints about food for sale including complaints about labelling and food safety
- We work with public health units and local Councils to investigate foodborne illnesses and outbreaks
- We support and coordinate food recalls with food businesses
- We respond to food incidents and critical food safety events such as outbreaks of foodborne illness.

We work with Territorial Authorities, Ministry of Health, District Health Board Public Health Units, the Commerce Commission, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, food businesses, and consumers.
We work as a National Team with an inclusive and supportive team culture.

- most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
