Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Senior leadership role
- Flexible location

This role is one of three new roles in the Review and Improvement Services (RIS) business group in the Education Review Office (ERO). Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive - RIS, the Director Systems, Capability and Performance is tasked with leading the functions that manage systems, practices and processes to support service delivery, and driving the move from a regionally based operating model to a national approach in the RIS workstreams.
You will combine your executive-level system architecture and information management expertise with the leadership and vision to drive continuous improvement within the systems, capability and performance function to support the RIS strategy. Passionate about using data and insights to inform strategic direction, you will be a trusted senior leader with sound experience of working in a complex environment and of building high performing teams, confident when working with ambiguity and known for your ability to build trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
ERO is accountable for evaluating and reporting on the pre-tertiary education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. Its driving force is a belief that a quality education is the right of every child and young person in Aotearoa New Zealand on their educational pathway, from early childhood learning until they leave school. ERO lives by its Whakataukī: Ko te Tamaiti te Pūtake o te Kaupapa, The Child — the Heart of the Matter. Its reports are used by parents, teachers, early childhood education managers, school principals and trustees, and by government policy makers.
RIS carries out external evaluations at early childhood services, schools and kura to provide information on their performance and to support improvement for high quality education. The position of Director Schools has been created to lead ERO's review and improvement strategy, functions and service delivery relating to schools workstreams.
This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting new chapter in ERO's journey. Key to your success will be your commitment to furthering the united vision for a national way of operating, taking your team on the journey and promoting a culture of collective achievement.
