Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Insights Lead to drive our evidence-based approach to supporting and influencing the sport and recreation sector in the region. This full-time position will work closely with the entire Sport Otago team and key external partners to provide insights about physical activity in Otago that challenges assumptions and can inform strategic decision making.

The role encompasses:

  • Coordinating, analyzing, and disseminating data to aid decision making for both internal strategy and external stakeholders.
  • Providing proactive insights and recommendations to Sport Otago staff based on participant and stakeholder feedback and behavior.
  • Assisting staff to ensure effective evaluation and monitoring systems are being used to measure the impact of Sport Otago's work.
  • Maintaining and developing initiatives and opportunities with physical activity providers to enable Sport Otago to maximize its potential as a leader in the physical activity sector.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven data collection, analysis, evaluation, and report writing skills.
  • Experience in the analysis of research and information and translating it into useful, meaningful, and actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of survey methodology, experience using survey tools, and a practical understanding of evaluation methods and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills with the ability to write concisely, clearly, and logically for a wide range of audiences.
  • Understanding of the physical activity sector and the wider social and political context that Sport Otago operates in, and the ability to understand, articulate, and discuss Sport Otago's goals and strategies.
  • Experience in managing and prioritizing multiple and competing tasks and projects to meet deadlines and produce quality results.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, resilience, and a high level of initiative.
  • Values physical activity for yourself and others.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to form positive relationships with Sport Otago employees and key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
