Salary

The salary for this position is circa $95,000, dependent on skills and experience.

Job Description

The Emergency Management Officer will facilitate the delivery of Civil Defence Emergency Management by supporting Council, Hamilton City communities, and relevant agencies in understanding hazards, planning for risk mitigation, and developing preparedness and resilience against disasters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with communities and agencies to increase resilience
  • Educating the public about natural and man-made hazards and preparation strategies
  • Developing and enhancing emergency response plans

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in emergency management or a similar operational role
  • Completed CDEM sector training via the Integrated Training Framework (ITF) or the ability to complete this training within a reasonable timeframe
  • Demonstrated competent decision-making in high-stress situations
  • A positive attitude and commitment to increasing disaster resilience
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in facilitating groups
  • Cultural awareness and knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi
