**About Historic Claims Service**

The Ministry of Social Development's Alternative Disputes Resolution Service, operated by Historic Claims, provides a platform for individuals who have experienced abuse or neglect in state care to seek redress and healing. As a key component of this service, the Specialist Claims Assessor plays a vital role in ensuring that claimants receive a positive experience throughout their journey.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Conduct assessments of claims against the Historic Claims assessment framework.
  • Provide recommendations to support decision-making and ensure the best possible outcomes for claimants.
  • Work closely with Senior Claimant Support Specialists to gather relevant information and facilitate the claims process.
  • Prepare information for claimant feedback sessions to offer closure and support.

**Requirements:**

  • Ability to assess claims under the Historic Claims assessment framework.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning skills and ability to synthesise large amounts of information.
  • Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and cultural responsiveness.
