Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care at the appropriate skill level. This includes:

  • Coordinating clinic work activities and schedules.
  • Administering policies and procedures in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Operating diagnostic equipment, removing staples from superficial wounds, changing wound dressings and obtaining cultures, administering non-intravenous medication, performing simple specimen collection, collecting blood specimens, and performing EKGs.
  • Assisting with procedures and ensuring quality control checks on equipment.
  • Fostering accountability for clinical practice and patient goals.
  • Recording patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordination patient care as directed by providers, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Organizing exam and treatment rooms, stocking, cleaning, and sterilizing instruments as necessary.
  • Anticipating provider needs prior to patient encounters.
  • Enforcing medication policy and maintaining an environment that supports infection prevention.
  • Limited telephone and in-person screening to intake and gathering information without requiring judgment based on clinical knowledge.
  • Ensuring supplies are available, stock is inventoried, log data is accurate, and supplies are rotated.
  • Supporting emergency management protocols and procedures.
