**Job Overview**

The Government Communications Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the goals of the governmental department or agency.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Design and implement a communications strategy that aligns with the department's objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media representatives to effectively manage press releases, respond to inquiries, and organize press briefings.
  • Ccoordinate public awareness campaigns to inform the public about various initiatives, policies, and services.
  • Develop and implement strategies for managing communication during crises, ensuring accurate and timely information dissemination.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including community leaders, businesses, government entities, and the general public, to foster a positive relationship and dialogue.
  • Manage internal communications to ensure employees are informed about agency news, updates, and directives.
  • Oversight of the agency's online presence, including official websites, social media platforms, and other digital communication methods.
  • Lead the creation and distribution of written, video, and photo content that aligns with the government's communication strategy.

**Qualifications**

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.

Extensive experience in a senior communications role, preferably within a governmental or public sector context.

Strong understanding of governmental operations, political sensitivities, and public policy issues.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.

Familiarity with digital communication platforms, including social media, content management systems, and analytics tools.
