Strategic Community Engagement Leader

**About Us**
Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People is a government ministry dedicated to improving the lives of disabled and Deaf people. We provide leadership and advice to align priorities and focus across government.
We are a standalone ministry, established on 01 December 2024, and this is an exciting time to join our organisation. Our role is to support the development of a refreshed New Zealand Disability Strategy by designing, leading, and coaching others to deliver a comprehensive engagement programme.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the development of a refreshed New Zealand Disability Strategy. This involves leading engagement with the disability community and key stakeholders such as business, industry, central government agencies, and local government, to ensure broad and inclusive participation.
- Developing a comprehensive engagement strategy using engagement frameworks.
- Providing advice to Senior Leadership on engagement best practice.
- Leading the core thought leadership and strategic planning for the Engagement work programme.
This is a fixed term role ending 27 June 2025.
About You
You will have strong experience leading and providing technical leadership on complex community-led development or engagement programmes. Your in-depth knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement methodology will showcase your proven track record of fostering strategic relationships.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet key project milestones and delivery dates.
- Proven experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and building long-term relationships to influence and drive change.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to set clear goals and drive transformative change across multiple teams.
To undertake this role successfully, you will either be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community. You will have empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.
