Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Policy Manager and contribute to the development of effective policies that support Maori language and cultural development. As a Policy Manager, you will have the opportunity to work closely with iwi, hapu and whanau Maori, as well as government agencies and other stakeholders, to develop and implement policies that meet the needs of Maori communities.

The Ministry of Maori Development supports and works in partnership with the Government to design and deliver policies that have a significant and positive impact on Maori. Our commitment to 'Whanau Taurikura' - 'Thriving Whanau' enables whanau, hapu and iwi to succeed and underpins everything that we do.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policy strategies that align with the Ministry's vision and goals
  • Lead and manage a team of policy advisors to achieve key objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including iwi, hapu and whanau Maori, government agencies and other organizations
  • Provide high-quality policy advice to the Ministerial Forum, Te Runanga Reo and other key stakeholders
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of the Maori language and culture
  • Experience in policy development and management, particularly in the area of Maori language and cultural development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application in policy development
