Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Registrar to join our intensive care team at Dunedin Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care and advancing medical education.

About the Position

  • Work as part of a collaborative team in a 22-bed mixed medical and surgical intensive care unit.
  • Contribute to the development of critical care services, participating in educational programs and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Participate in echocardiography, ultrasound teaching, and simulation sessions to enhance skills and advance medical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with consultants and senior nurses to provide high-quality registrar education and support professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ward rounds and manage the unit overnight when on-call, working closely with SMO supervision.
  • Delegate tasks to registrars and SHOs, ensuring seamless delivery of patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of special skills, such as research, teaching, or management, through non-clinical time.
  • Participate in critical care fellowship training and education programs to stay up-to-date with best practices.

Requirements

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional general registration.
  • Minimum two years' post-qualification experience, preferably in anaesthetics or intensive care medicine.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
