About the Job

The District Chief Midwife is a senior leadership role that plays a critical part in providing and demonstrating leadership in the local district. This includes managing health resources, championing patient experience, and empowering the midwifery and maternity workforce to deliver high-quality patient and whānau care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong, visible, professional, and clinical leadership to motivate and inspire midwifery and maternity colleagues and the wider health workforce.
  • Participate in the local district leadership team and take a whole-of-system approach to alternative models of care.
  • Raise awareness and promote Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings.
  • Empower the midwifery and maternity workforce to develop advanced and extended practice.

About You

To be successful in this role, you should be a dynamic senior leader with relevant experience within the New Zealand Public Sector. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and positively influencing and motivating others.

You should also have the ability to mitigate risks and issues effectively, work collaboratively with others, and share knowledge and expertise to support the growth of the team.
