About Us

Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders since 1885, providing Ambulance Services and supporting strong, resilient communities across the motu.

About the Role

As a volunteer, you will be part of a team that provides quality care to patients through their journey, which may start at a 111 call and end with referral to another healthcare provider or medical facility.

The role is varied, but the focus is on providing compassionate care to patients in need. You could be working at community events, on an ambulance, or at school fairs and concerts.

We offer NZQA recognised training and will give you all the support needed to make you safe and effective in the field.

Qualifications and Skills
  • You will have a desire to help people in a compassionate and professional way.
  • You must have a full and clean NZ driver's licence for at least 12 months or have completed an approved NZTA advanced driving course (if full licence held for less than 12 months).
  • You must be 18 years of age or over.
  • New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency status is required.
  • A clean police record is essential.
  • You must pass Hato Hone St John assessments - physical assessment, health questionnaire, literacy and numeracy assessments and an interview.
  • You must meet our Medical Standards.
