Orthopaedic Operating Theatres at Te Whatu Ora

We are seeking skilled registered nurses to join our Theatre Nursing team at Waikato Hospital, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery.

About the Role:

  • This is a fixed-term opportunity to cover parental leave and permanent vacancies in our fast-paced environment.
  • You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient care, working in challenging and interesting orthopaedic cases.
  • Your experience in orthopaedic operating theatres will enable you to make a real impact while developing your skills further.

About the Team:

The Theatre and Anaesthesia department at Waikato Hospital comprises 22 Operating Theatres, a Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, and a Day of Surgery Admission Unit, offering a wide range of surgical specialties including general surgery, vascular, cardiac, urology, neurosurgery, and more.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' previous nursing experience in orthopaedic operating theatres in a large tertiary level hospital
  • Sound understanding of orthopaedic instruments, equipment, and surgical protocols
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and sterile techniques in an operating room environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with surgeons, anaesthetists, patients, and theatre staff
  • Enthusiasm and commitment in a changing environment
  • Current APC & eligibility to work in New Zealand
