About the Role

The District Chief Medical Officer is a critical role within the health district, responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care, developing clinical strategies, and achieving Health New Zealand's goals related to the medical workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong, visible, professional and clinical leadership, and motivate and inspire medical colleagues, and wider health workforce.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the delivery of Health New Zealand's goals related to the medical workforce.
  • Model an interprofessional approach and work in collaboration with other clinical chiefs, leaders, and management to achieve these objectives.
  • Manage health resources effectively, demonstrating leadership, accountability, and communication skills.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience at a senior level, driven by a commitment to make a meaningful impact on healthcare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and positively influencing and motivating others.
  • Problem-solving and system-thinking skills to effectively mitigate a wide range of risks and issues.
  • Current vocational or general registration with Medical Council of New Zealand, in any clinical discipline.
