We are seeking an experienced Principal Conservator to lead our conservation department, ensuring the long-term preservation of our extensive collections. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the care, conservation, and presentation of our artworks, as well as managing conservation programs, staff, and budgets.
Job Description
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of conservation principles and ethics, with a proven track record in leading conservation teams and implementing conservation policies. You will also have excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Masters degree or PhD in conservation or a related field
- Accreditation with a professional body of conservation such as NZCCM, AICCM, ICON, or AIC
- 10 years of experience working as a conservator
- Extensive experience in preventive and remedial conservation within a museum/art gallery context
- Ability to work co-operatively and effectively with a range of other museum roles
- Publication and public speaking experience
