About the Position

Auckland Council is seeking an Avian Care Leader to join our Animal Care & Conservation team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, well-being, and conservation of our birds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Developing and implementing species action plans to enhance conservation outcomes.
  2. Leading by example and mentoring junior staff members.
  3. Collaborating with the Team Leader to develop and implement operational plans.
  4. Ensuring health and safety standards are upheld across all aspects of zoo operations.

Key qualifications include:

  • Proven leadership experience within a zoo-keeping or wildlife environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in bird husbandry and zoo operations.
  • Relevant qualifications in biological/conservation sciences or zoo-keeping.
  • In-depth knowledge of avicultural skills.
