Our Forensic Psychiatrist Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitaha Canterbury. This part-time, permanent role will involve providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in a hospital and outpatient setting, as well as working in the wider community, the Court, and Corrections.

About Us

Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitaha Canterbury is a leading provider of forensic mental health services in the South Island of New Zealand. Our team works closely with Courts, Probation, Department of Corrections, and Outreach Services to provide high-quality care to individuals with complex mental health needs.

As a Forensic Psychiatrist, you will be an integral part of our team, working alongside five other Forensic Psychiatrists to deliver expert assessment and treatment services. Previous forensic experience is valued but not essential.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in a hospital and outpatient setting
  • Work in the wider community, including with Courts, Probation, Department of Corrections, and Outreach Services
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care to individuals with complex mental health needs
About You

To be considered for this role, you will need to be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. As an experienced Forensic Psychiatrist, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
